Want a Healthy Gut? Avoid These Mistakes

“A healthy body begins with a healthy gut” Hippocrates

The digestive system is the core of the immune system. This is where the foods we eat are digested and nutrients absorbed into the bloodstream.  It is the nutrition powerhouse of the body. If you have a poor gut health, your digestive system will not digest food to its optimum level. This problem could escalate to different parts of the body and even lead to an illness.

Here are the mistakes you should look out for (and stop committing) to have a healthy gut.

 Snacking All Day

You’ve probably heard that you should feed your tummy regularly in order to stabilize your blood sugar and weight, but this is not the case when it comes to your gut health. We acknowledge that snacks are required to keep your tummy full throughout the day. However, you should be picky in the snacks that you eat as some snacks do more harm to your body than good, especially those snacks that contains dairy and grains.

Such snacks are hard to digest, and they stress the digestive system. On top of that, they may make you bloated and irritable.

  Consuming Yoghurt

One of the biggest mistakes that people commit is overconsuming yogurt, thinking that is good for their gut health. Most people have been told that yogurt contains probiotics that promote the growth of healthy bacteria in the stomach. However, they fail to acknowledge that most foods nowadays are chemically-produced. As such, the healthy yogurt you used to eat may not be as healthy nowadays. Most commercial yogurts nowadays are loaded with fats, sugars, and chemical preservatives.

If you really want to eat something fulfilling for your tummy, opt to eat fibers instead. Fibers are good as they allow for a slow and thorough absorption of nutrients without stressing your digestion. Some of the foods that contain fiber are flax and chia seeds, fruits, veggies like broccoli and kale, quinoa, and oats.

 Eating when Stressed

One of the disorders we might have is stressful eating, especially in the modern world where stressors are rampant. With the hectic daily schedules ranging from work, family responsibilities, and catching up with friends, it’s incredibly easy to get stressed.

Some people opt for stressful eating when they’re stressed as a relief. There is even a misconception that chocolates relieve stress. And while they indeed provide some relief, remember that it’s only temporary. And you’ll be left with a long-term damage! Instead, divert your attention to yoga, meditation, or massage.

 Eating Too many Raw Vegetables

When we talk about vegetables, the first thing that hits the mind is that they’re healthy. We’ve been taught to consume raw and fresh veggies. However, this rule doesn’t apply to all cases. Sometimes, they can lead to bloating and abdominal pain. You need to identify which “veggies” to eat raw and which ones to cook.
