What They Don’t Tell You About Weight Loss

Dieting and weight loss sure makes us ask a million questions. But we won’t give you answers to those. Instead, we’ll give you a couple of suprising facts that you probably didn’t know about food that helps you release fat and a couple of other weight loss secrets.

Dairy promotes weight loss

Aha! Here’s another. Remember how they say cheese, milk and especially butter can make you fat? Why else would they tell you to skip the Parmesan and mozzarella whenever you have pasta and pizza, or that you shouldn’t add butter in your popcorn? These pieces of advice are quite old school, if you consult any modern dietitian and research articles. The (fortunate!) truth is, sources of calcium are reportedly more effective in accelerating fat loss. At the same time, calcium deficiency is linked to having greater fat mass and to losing control over your appetite. So by all means, don’t say no to your favorite yogurts, non-fat cheese and milk forever!

Exercise alone won’t help you lose weight

Thinking that you can eat an entire pizza because you’re going to hit the gym later anyway is a dangerous mindset, and yet it’s what majority of the people who want to diet keep thinking! While exercise alone does help you burn calories, it only actually decreases your body weight by 3%. Not only that, exercising makes you feel hungry, which means you’re bound to repeat the same cycle over and over again until you end up gaining more weight than when you started and/or quit the weight loss project altogether! It’s important to remember that the formula for a successful weight loss is exercise and diet, so start eating and portioning healthier food while you sweat it out!

It’s okay to lounge in front of the TV

We’ve always thought that the couch potato term refers to a person who’s chubby and does nothing but watches (and eats!) in front of a television. Except, sitting all day in front of the TV doesn’t  necessarily make you pack on the pounds. What many of us don’t know is that something as simple a fidgeting burns calories. And you know what else burns calories and releases fat? Relieving yourself from stress! Go don’t be afraid to watch your favorite sitcoms or rewatch the entire 10 seasons of Friends, if it’s going to make you laugh hysterically!

Eating chocolate daily helps you slim down

We’re totally not kidding you! While we’ve grown accustomed to hearing that having sweets — especially the evil chocolate — is one of the biggest reasons we pack on the pounds, there’s actually something in it that can help you release fat. But before you hoard your favorite chocolates from the supermarket, know that we’re not talking about all chocolates in general. You’ll need one that’s high in cocoa and low on sugar. Cocoa is actually filled with good antioxidants and can aid in weight loss, when consumed in moderation. You can easily add it to your diet by including unsweetened cocoa in your shakes, coffee and other recipes!

A glass of wine a day helps release fat

You’ve probably heard this one before (thanks to the Internet) and it couldn’t be more true. Many recent studies have clearly shown that a regular, small glass of red wine is good for your health, heart and fitness! Wine-drinkers gained less weight and are at a much lower risk of getting overweight. It’s all because of one of its main ingredients, the strong antioxidant called resveratrol, which is also responsible for improved exercise endurance and for protecting us against diet-induced obesity and insulin resistance. So by all means, cheers!

Staying up late doesn’t make you lose weight

You’ve probably also been told to catch up on more sleep or else you’d end up looking like walking skeletons with eye bags. Except, that’s not actually true. A study found that those who slept longer were able to lose more body fat than those who had the same diet as them but slept for much shorter hours. Besides, the more sleep deprived you are, the more messed up your leptin and ghrelin hormones (for appetite regulation) will be and the more you’re bound to feel hungry and end up consuming as much as 300 calories from unhealthy snacks late at night! Makes perfect sense doesn’t it?

No matter what kind of serious commitment you get into, such as losing weight and transforming your body, there are going to be things that you need to be aware of in order to make more informed and healthy decisions for yourself along the way. You’re welcome!
